Wildfire insanity

Man, I am REALLY going to be volunteering for Habitat for Humanity. There are eight wildfires blazing around San Diego County, creating poor air quality and destroying people's homes and dreams. Nothing like a natural disaster to kick you in the ass about what real life is about.

I <3 Extreme Makeover: Home Edition

I just watched Ty Pennington and Extreme Makeover and was so moved by the work they did. This time the team helped a family who is coping with Chiari Malformation. The family had been living in a refurbished chicken coop. After Extreme Makeover rebuilt the home, it looked like something out of Metropolitan Home! What a terrific story - the family was totally deserving. Man, if I can get my lazy ass in gear, I am going to sign up for Habitat for Humanity so I can reclaim this feeling.

How much football can a guy watch?!

I am a football widow. My husband is a pigskin addict. He not only watches the NFL games, but also enjoys the NCAA stuff. Now, I admit I like cheering for our alma mater, but when did we start caring about Cal v. UCLA?! And now that it's Sunday, the TV is permanently glued to ... whatever channel is broadcasting those stupid games. To try and keep up, I'm playing Fantasy Football with him, but alas, the league I'm in doesn't interest him as much as his original league... He's in THREE of 'em! Sigh. Because we live in a studio, there's no escape to another room. It's killing me, wondering what's on the other channels. While I'm listening to how the Giants are faring against the 49ers, there might be a terrific episode on the Travel Channel, one with the unsinkable Samantha Brown!!! I think a reason I hate this so much is it's like being at a game, with all the fans screaming and all of the obnoxious commentary, but without the fun hot dogs, the souvenir cups of soda and other sweet snacks. I think I'm going to go to Borders soon... Bleah.

"Manic" has too much energy to describe Mondays

I hate Mondays.
I've tried everything to shake this feeling. I tried telling myself that Mondays could be the start of something beautiful.
Didn't work.
I've tried making fun appointments with friends on Monday. Starbucks after work! Pumpkin Spice Lattes all around!
Didn't work.
I've even tried to creatively visualize Monday as my most favorite day of the week, usurping Friday's place.
Nope.
So I've surrendered to that hatred and decided to run with it.
I am excited, however, that "Two and a Half Men" premieres tonight and that "Everybody Hates Chris" starts up again next Monday.
Huh.
Maybe Monday won't suck after all.
Yeah, right.
Anybody know where I can get a copy of "The Secret" for cheap?

All it took was an "a" instead of an "e"

So I harassed my husband into signing up for this terrific site... "Uh, Gen, what are you doing on this site?" he chortled. OK, I don't know if he chortled, but it was kinda like a snort, kinda like a laugh, kinda like a WTF sound.
"Duh, I'm blogging. And I posted a picture of me!" I said.
His eyes bugged out. "WHAT?!"
"Whassamatter?!" I asked, looking over his shoulder at his computer screen.
Turns out he found the hardcore porn site FamestArs. Wrong site, knucklehead.
I'm pretty sure he was relieved that I wasn't posting on that site... He opened FamestErs and was pleased with the real deal. Good job, hon... Hmmm, but, just in case, I better check to make sure he didn't bookmark that other one.
