A day at the office turns into a day at The Office
Sometimes I miss having a workplace to go to. Below is an account of one of those days that makes me miss it. These days were few and far between, however, and to counter these feelings, I simply think about old, fat white guys in suits. And then I am glad to stay home.
If you watch The Office, you probably remember the funeral for the dead bird episode. Well, today at work, we actually did that. Kinda. Well, OK, not really, but there was a dead bird, a lot of people near it and a burial of sorts.
Here goes:
As my co-worker Janet and I were walking outside, she noticed a tiny hummingbird dead on the ground, right near one of the large windows of the office.
"Aw," she says, as I wonder if it hit our window and broke its little neck.
Matty, who has come out behind us, also stops to check out the dead bird. Nathan, who comes out behind Matty (it's Saturday and the bosses are getting what they pay for) sees the bird and immediately runs in to get Josh, our resident nature man.
Nathan also picks up the bird and lays it on an outdoor ashtray, which henceforth became known as "The Viewing."
Josh came out and looked at the bird all laid out on the ashtray, which incidentially is sort of coffin-shaped. The rest of us, meanwhile, are just hanging out, remarking about the great turnout at the bird's viewing. "It was a wonderful bird. Always smiling. Very nice. Never had a bad tweet about anybody..." You know, typical stuff.
