"Dear Emily and Richard"

This episode is “Dear Emily and Richard”… I really like this one, and you know what? I think it’s got a lot to do with the flashbacks. I wish there were more flashbacks in the show. Anyway, on with the commentary:

1) Lorelai and Rory talk to Richard and Emily about their plan to backpack through Europe, and at first the Gilmores don’t think the girls are serious, but they really are, as we all know. And there’s a reference to “My Fair Lady”, which reminded me of Diamond.
2) Dean talks to Miss Patty, who is checking out the construction workers… like I check out the boys at school… It’s all relative.
3) Luke is reading this book about romantic restaurants, and of course Jess is there to tease. “If a horsedrawn carriage shows up outside, my throwing up will be eternal!”
4) Dean brings his order to Jess, and there’s lots of insults thrown back and forth, which I totally laugh at, especially the “talk into the clown” bit. Totally great. Dean totally has the power, which I think I like him taking full advantage of. I also like Jess’s sarcasm on the slowing down.
5) Lorelai freaks when the retirement guy changes his theme again for his party. For the fourth time, and of course, Michel is there to suggest the totally absurd idea.
6) Rory brings Lorelai the invitation for Sherry’s C-section, and Lorelai is amused by the whole concept. I’m more confused than amused, but whatever.
7) CHUPPAH!
8) Lorelai and Rory get the travel books Emily sent over, and it causes a flashback… young Lorelai and Christopher (ick) arrive at the Gilmore mansion and of course Christopher (ick) seems to know exactly what to pour for drinks… experienced, I’d say. Not a lot of things end up being the same, but the stick shoved up Christopher’s butt does.
9) Paris picks a picture of Rory that’s ugly, and she’s sneezing in it. Sounds like the story of my life. Sherry’s in labor, and Sherry’s friend calls Rory to ask if she can make it. Ah, her friend really is annoying.
10) Lorelai’s coming out dress won’t fit, and Emily’s suit is rather ugly. Just a thought.
11) Luke’s all dressed up, and Lorelai gives him a hard time about it. Lorelai’s annoyed at the fact that Luke won’t let her talk on the phone in his diner, but he lets Nicole talk. The wild arm gestures along with Luke’s attempt to hold her flailing arms down makes for a great scene.
12) Rory arrives in Boston (for the record, there is no Boston Memorial, just so we all know) and Sherry’s annoyed because no one’s there. And I must say that her hair is really icky looking, just for the record.
13) Another flashback! Richard is wearing a turtleneck, and they’re all discussing what Lorelai and Christopher should do now that Lorelai’s pregnant. Straub and Francine annoy Emily and Richard, and Richard suggests Christopher and Lorelai get married.
14) Rory calls Lorelai in a panic, begging her to show up after Sherry insists Rory go into the delivery room with her when she has the baby if Christopher can’t make it. Lorelai agrees to show up, and does, because she’s Lorelai. But first, we have another flashback, when Lorelai goes into labor. Lorelai’s all alone in the waiting room… awww, so sad.
15) Rory and Lorelai convince Sherry to stop working while she’s in labor (uh, hello, that’s usually a given)… and Sherry starts to panic because she thinks she’s not ready. Well, if she’s taking advice from Howard Stern…
16) Lorelai and Rory get some coffee, and Lorelai rejects the idea of getting a camera if he doesn’t make it, but then again it’s all a wash because he does make it. And Christopher seems to be subconsciously rubbing it in for Lorelai. And there’s a flashback, during which Emily acts like Emily, freaks out at Lorelai for leaving a note instead of telling her she was in labor.
17) Kirk sits at the counter, and Jess suggests he leave and read Moby Dick, but Luke and Nicole come back, causing everyone to be entertained. Jess attempts to excuse himself for awhile, but Luke sets him straight, outside, and whacks him in the process. Hysterical.
18) Christopher decides to be a subconscious jerk again and shows Lorelai his new baby, and totally raves about the experience. I can’t exactly say he’s outwardly being a jerk, but he’s subconsciously jerky. If that makes any sense. I feel so bad for Lorelai in this episode. Another reason I wish we would have been able to see Luke and Lorelai have a baby.

You know what? I get to come and blog anytime I want for the rest of the summer, unless I’m working or it’s a weekend. Life is getting pretty good. I promise I’ll actually attempt to write a blog post sans commentary for once. Yeah, me.
