When I first read that Madonna was employing the unstoppable duo of Timberlake & Timbaland to produce her next album, a couple of questions came to mind:

1. Is Madonna thirsty for hits?
2. What level of versatility has Justin reached as a writer?
3. Is Madonna gonna talk about how great Timbaland is in bed during the promotion of the album?
4. Will it be named 50YO?

As imaginative as I am, I have no idea what this match-up will sound like. I'm not worried that it will sound "bad", I'm just worried that the entire world will be worried and what we'll end up with is something rather boring and trite. But I suppose stranger things have happened.

This wouldn't be Madge's first time venturing into "urban" territory. No, I'm not talking about her soy latte palates rap on "American Life", I'm referring to 1994's Bedtime Stories, my second fave Madonna album, where she teamed up with Dave "Jam" Hall (Mary J., Mariah), Dallas Austin (TLC, Monica) and a then worth-a-damn Babyface. But even with it's R&B-leanings, Bedtime Stories still had a pop sheen that blurred the lines in the same fashion as Mimi's Daydream, minus the soaring vocals, of course.

Madonna is the untouchable Queen of Reinvention, and I don't begrudge her goals here. But I'm not so sure Timbaland and his weed carrier are the answer. What say you?
