Doctor Who Forest of the Dead Spoilers!
Well hell I sure wasn’t expecting that.
Forest of the Dead.
Forgive me but I’ll probably be working backwards on this episode. I’m slightly shocked.
Apparently Professor River Song isn’t evil. I hate to say it but I ended up liking her in this second half. Not loving her, but liking her. She knows the Doctor’s name, something he wouldn’t just tell to anyone. Though I have to confess I’m not entirely convinced they had a romantic relationship. I think it’s a trick the writer’s are playing on us. They make you think he would only tell his name to someone he loved/married/mated for life with. Then again in 900+ years we know he’s had a family, probably been in love, surely that lot knew his name. For that matter I’m certain the Master knows his name and I only say that from the conversation they have in The Sound of Drums.
Perhaps she is a lady of Gallifrey? Who knows? But I did tear up a bit when the Doctor woke up handcuffed to a pillar and pleaded with her to not sacrifice herself. Her story of their past together seriously made me weep a bit. Though I blame Tennant’s acting on that one, he does play anguished well. (Seriously dude, make a romantic comedy or something, I’d rather see you smile)
Donna’s storyline gave me flashbacks of the Matrix. And the Lady in Black? Hello! Creepy ass shit there, I nearly lost it when she took her veil off to reveal what her face looked like. I’m never sleeping again. Or look at a bride the same way again for that matter. Catherine Tate should win every award in the world. I swear to the stars that woman just rips out my heart. As everyone was “downloading” her screaming and promising to her “husband” that she’d find him…damn. Then to hear that she’d made him up, created the perfect man, he never existed, only to see him on the teleport watching her walk away. And because he stuttered he couldn’t call out to her.
I loved the little moment at the end when Donna and Ten are reunited, I loved their small conversation of being alright. “Is that Time Lord code for not being alright? Because I’m not alright.” I loved how Ten took her hand and lead her away. Those two are just bruised little souls aren’t they?
I was really struck at the end how Ten put River Song’s book on the ledge, you could tell he was still tempted to look inside. When Donna asks what happens to her in the future, you can see he’s still tempted to look inside and a part me thinks that if she had really wanted to know he would have opened that book. I’m with Donna on this one, “Spoilers,” I wouldn’t want to know either.
The sonic screwdriver that the Doctor had given to River Song, call me crazy but I saw some parallels there with Rose and the Bad Wolf thing. Ten had given River the sonic because it contained the device for her to be saved, and I’m not entirely sure how the hell that worked. He hadn’t met her yet, but he’d given her the sonic so he could save her later. Scratch that bit with Rose and Bad Wolf, I had a thought but I lost it. One of you figure it out for me, okay?
The little girl. I never would have guessed she was what she was. I figured she was running the Library somehow but I never would have guessed she was the Library computer. I had to laugh as she watched Ten and company on the telly complete with soundtrack.
Very clever with the shadow monsters (I can’t spell it) being hatched from the books. They came from trees and tress come from books. I’m slightly nervous about all the books in my bedroom at the moment.
Sorry for the muddled thoughts, but my brain is going five hundred miles a minute.
