Doctor Who Midnight Spoilers!

Holy crap….

Midnight

I wasn’t expecting much with this one.  Seriously I thought it was going to suck more than a soggy pretzel.  But it didn’t.  It was beyond expectations for me.

First off, Doctor I have to tell you something you should have learned in nine hundred years…you never, ever say: “What could go wrong?” or anything along those lines.  That goes for promising people that everything is going to be fine and everyone will make it out alive.

If you should ever hear a Time Lord utter anything of that nature, run like hell and don’t stop until you hit an ocean and then swim for it.

That aside, can we talk about how cute Ten was on the little shuttle pre take off?  My god he looked giddy as a kid with a new toy.  He was practically bouncing in his seat.  Loved that he used the mighty sonic to turn off the so called entertainment and his suggestion that they would have to talk to each other.  That was something that I loved about this episode, we actually saw the Doctor enjoying some quiet time as it were.  He was making friends, chatting, laughing, having a grand old time.  It was nice to see, we hardly ever see Ten just sitting and being there in the moment.  Was a nice touch.

And then scary shit starts to happen.  The knocking was frightening to me.  It was the fact they kept saying that nothing living could be out there, nothing could survive out there.  You knew something had to be out there, but we never saw what.  A glimpsed shadow that may or may not have been there.  The whole knocking scene reminded me of the movie Signs, when the aliens are trying to get into the house, trying the doors, the windows, running around the house.  This is what happened here.

Rose on the monitor!  Doctor turn the hell around!!  Rose!

This is where I actually started thinking that the knocking was Rose.  I really did.

I don’t know who the actress was that played Sky (or was it Skye?) but she has my respect.  Holy crap I was impressed with her being able to do all the repeating and then actually speaking with the other actors.  I imagine a lot of that was rerecorded later, but damn the scene with her and Ten looking at each other speaking in perfect unison…Not only was it brilliantly done, but it was also damn creepy.

Again I thought it was Rose.  When she was finally able to speak on her own and she said, “I’m returning,” and made comments that could have applied to Rose, I was thinking this is how she’s going to talk to him.  It didn’t occur to me right away that Ten’s look of distress wasn’t of shock but of possession.  The damn thing was taking him over.

Okay I have to say it, when it was Ten repeating everything, did anyone else think he sounded just a tad too sexual?  Some of his line deliveries sounded like they were lifted out of a porn movie track!  Not to mention the shot where it looked like was being taken roughly from behind.  (you know the shot I mean.)

The silence at the end of this ordeal killed me.  Everyone is quiet and probably ashamed for their actions during the whole thing.  And Ten asking what the hostess’s name was, he’s big on that isn’t he?  People have names, use them.

Speaking of names, anyone else pick up on the mention of Medusa Cascade?  Of all the things for Ten to bring up, why bring that up?  The rest of the crew demanding to know what his name was besides “Doctor”, he looks like he’s about to have a stroke.  He can’t even say John Smith with conviction.  I think the name thing is going to come into play again.  Pompeii Girl spoke about it, River knew it, and now a week later we have a group of people demanding to know what his name is.

Have to talk about Donna now.  Loved the bit at the beginning!  Ten wants her to come with him and she wants to relax.  But they’re going to meet for dinner.  Sorry but I found the whole thing too cute for words.  As much as I love and adore Donna I was glad she wasn’t with him on this one, it gave his coming home to her a little more emotion.  You could tell he was relieved to see her, did you see the hug he gave her?

Their talk at the end was so sweet.  Loved the bit of freak out when she repeated his Italian phrase (or was it French?) back to him and he said, “No don’t do that…”

So I was happily proven wrong.  Loved this episode, can’t wait for next week!  ROSE!!  And some big ass bug looking thing on Donna’s back.  ROSE!!!!
