Yes, he was an original, certainly. Tom Robbins and Joseph Heller both cite Vonnegut as major influences in their writings. This is a pretty valid kudo for the big V, for Heller wrote what is considered the greatest American classic since Huck Finn, and Robbins' "Even Cowgirls Get The Blues" was the beginning of a long string of fantastic novels. Now that Heller is also dead, I guess I can always wait at Barnes and Noble for the next Robbins book. Or maybe hang out by his house in the Seattle area and steal his galley proofs, right...
