Neutrogena mist

I have used jergens and my skin doesn't care for it, but it DOES WORK. It's also gradual so you know when you need to not use quite so much or if you are missing the same spot over and over again.
MY FAVE is the Neutrogena Mist, it runs $9-10. ITS AWESOME. Its a mist so it gets the hard to reach places and you don't have to rub it in. It also doesn't stain anything and dries quickly. It lasts for about a week. I have had really good results with it.
it works

it works but make sure if you are fair skinned like me you start off with the fair skinned type or you will come out orange I also like to use this one by Nivea but I forgot the name
I third the recommendation

I third the recommendation of Jergen's. Good stuff. It's a little stinky for a couple of hours after you put it on but it fades pretty quickly. And the color is non-orangey, which my fair skin likes. The only thing I don't love about it is its weak moisturizing ability but I have super dry skin. It's probably fine on most people.
SUN self-tanner is amazing!

SUN self-tanner is amazing! a little pricey, but it goes a long way and doesn't have that "self-tanner" stench. comes in foams, sprays and lotions, and you can pick the level of darkness. most importantly, i don't look like an oompa loompa when i use it. :)
Thanks for all the help you guys!

Thank God I have some back up on here! I have tried a couple of different brands and I just can't justify looking tan and hot but being smelly. Thanks for the help. Any more suggestions are welcomed!

i used the mist last summer on my legs because they never catch up to my top half -- i was a little tipsy during application, so i had some really attractive streaks on my ankles, which then got dirt in them because i thought it would be a good idea to go fuck around outside immediately after. so yeah, other than that...
*ain't nothin wrong with a fanny pack.

Okay girls, I've been self-tanning for over 20 years (we used to use this awful stuff called QT. It would make you dark orange and well, it sucked).
The BEST tan is the following:
- As soon as you get out of the shower, moisturize your feet and knees
- Use L'Oreal Sublime TOWLETTES. They smell of nothing, absorb right away, no stickiness, no weird heat (yes, I get a weird "heat" from some of the gels, menopause maybe?). the towlettes feel like the towlettes they give you at KFC to clean your hands. Dry. Lovely. You can put on a white dress right after this or crawl into bed.
- Go over areas where you want to look Like Gisele Bunchen: legs, chest, arms, shoulders, whatever, with Victoria's Secret Bare Bronze. It smells like coconut suntan lotion.
Trust me. People tell me all the time "you're so lucky that you tan like a Bronze Goddess" when actually i'm a fair-skinned, freckly girl.
This is the combo to use if you want to do it quickly and you want a St. Tropez tan. If you're looking for a soft bronzey glow, use the VS Bare Bronze only.
Enjoy!

Wow ckinmiami, thanks for the tip! I'm totally going to try that. I have the worst luck with self-tanners. I either stink, or all of my clothes get stained with the residue, or it comes out blotchy.... I'm going to try your method!

On the topic, Victoria's Secret has a great firming lotion (no self tanner) that smells amazing and actually moisturizes (I have extremely dry skin as well) and it is supposed to help with cellulite too!
It comes in a turquoise bottle I think it is Supermodel something or rather, I will look at it tonight. I love this stuff.
Also for really dry skin... when you get out of the shower put some sort of oil on, I know nutrogena makes some and then lotion, especially on legs. You can't believe how soft and HOT it make those stems looks. I seriously get so many comments when I do this, even from my nasty guys friends who don't know their head from their ass.

self tanner
Jergens is actually pretty good. it starts to smell the second day.
sometimes i put it on at night and by morning i can smell it.
although it's not NEARLY as bad as a mystic tan. the color is fantastic.
i go with a medium to dark because i'm impatient. works great.
as with any self tanner, you have to spread it evenly. best bang for
your buck at$8.
