Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End

I've seen this twice now and I don't think I can come up with a coherent review so, instead, a list of the many things I loved and the 1 thing I didn't.

What I Loved
1. The pacing. Unlike DMC, which was shorter but felt longer because it had a lot of filler and overly long action sequences, this movie flew by and I don't feel a single moment should've been cut.
2. Barbossa.
3. The resolution of Will and Elizabeth's arc, especially Will's. Yes, it was sad (for 10 years, at least) but it seemed right, somehow. Will going from a simple blacksmith to the captain of the Flying Dutchman (and with the sword he made for Norrington way back in CotBP) was quite a journey and I believed his journey from start to finish. As for Elizabeth, I'm hoping the badass pirate lord and Pirate King did not just have William Turner III and settle down to wait for Will, so my belief is that she had many adventures in between. I'd actually like to see that movie. I love Captain Jack but Elizabeth is the character I most relate to, so if Disney can talk Keira into doing an Elizabeth-centric movie about those 10 years, I am all for it. Imagine a movie opening with Captain Jack delivering Will III, y'all? How awesome would THAT be? Hee.
4. The resolution of Jack/Elizabeth. I was never on board that 'ship because I love Will/Elizabeth so much, so I was happy that Jack was way too wary of Elizabeth after she killed him in DMC to resume that old flirtatious dance.
5. The use of the audio from the Disney ride when Barbossa's ship goes over the edge of the world. What an awesome nod to the reason why we have these movies.
6. Barbossa.
7. The tragic love story of Davy Jones and Calypso, and the reveal that Tia Dalma is Calypso. Who knew a tentacle-faced man and a human-bound goddess with seriously ugly teeth would carry such a moving romance?
8. The scene with Beckett walking down the steps of the Endeavour as it's blown to smithereens right around him, ending with his pitiful and ignominious end. What a gorgeous shot.
9. The parley scene with Jack, Elizabeth, and Barbossa meeting Will, Beckett, and Davy Jones on that tiny sandbar. The music and the way it was shot was so awesome.
10. Ragetti's eye being one of the nine Pieces of Eight. Hee!
11. Barbossa.
12. Multiple Jacks! How awesome. And creepy. But mostly awesome. Especially the shirtless Jack. *leer*
13. The rock crabs. I loved them moving the Black Pearl to meet Barbossa, Will, Elizabeth and the others.
14. Will and Elizabeth's shipboard wedding, amidst the huge battle.
15. That final battle, in all of its brilliant, chaotic glory. Especially the sword fight between Jack and Davy Jones. When the movie was nearing its end and we hadn't gotten a single swordfight, I was getting a little worried that we'd never get one. So I was quite thrilled when Jack and Davy Jones started dueling. Still not as good as the Jack/Will/Norrington swordfight in DMC but pretty awesome nonetheless.
16. Norrington getting to save Elizabeth and kiss her.
17. Barbossa.
18. Will licking Elizabeth's leg. I know it was a PG-13 movie but I seriously thought he was going to head north for a moment there. I needed a cold shower after that scene. Orlando was at, like, supernova levels of hotness in this movie.
19. Keith Richards' cameo. Hahahahaha! So awesome. And I loved that the dog from Cannibal Island in DMC ended up with him.
20. Governor Swann's death. I mean, I didn't *like* it, but it was very moving and sad.
21. The rocking of the Black Pearl to turn it upside down. That was both hilarious and really cool.
22. Motherfucking Barbossa, y'all. BARBOSSA.

I know there's more but my mind is all a-jumble right now.

What I Hated
1. Norrington's death. Not only did they kill my beloved Norrington (you bastards!), but it was such a pathetic death. Sure, he saved Elizabeth and her crew but being stabbed by Bootstrap Bill, who didn't even know what he was doing? Lame. And he was barely in the movie before he died so, HMRPH. I DO NOT APPROVE. But this is a movie series about zombie pirates and fish people and undead monkeys, so I will hold a slim hope that Norrington can be brought back in some way. DO NOT TAKE MY HOPE AWAY, PEOPLE.

Overall grade: A. Would be an A+ if not for the Norrington thing. *grumps*
