Is anyone else as pathetically into this show as I am?

I mean, first of all, it's got smokin' hot guys as the leads. There is no wrong in a world where Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki exist and play brothers.

The car is awesome. The music is awesome, particularly (for me, at least) since they've moved to more classic rock than heavy metal. The secondary characters are awesome (I love Bobby with the passion of a thousand burning suns, and Ellen, Jo, and Ash are cool, too).

I also think Eric Kripke does a good job overall of balancing arc-driven episodes with standalones, and humor with angst. The show has definitely hit its stride this season in particular. There are a few episodes ("Roadkill" and "Houses of the Holy") that just didn't work for me, but others that were amazing ("Night Shifter," "In My Time of Dying," and "Heart," just to name a few). I would argue that "Night Shifter" (Nightshifter?) was as good as anything else on TV...it was tight.

Soooo...anyone else addicted to the Winchesters?

P.S. Please do not spoil me for the season finale, or I will cry massive tears of angst and emo. Seriously.

I love it.

I love it. Seriously, read my recaps sometime. The only beef I have with the show is how much attention is paid to how "hawt" the boys are. I wish people would take it a little more seriously, but kudos to Kripke for pulling a Whedon and sneaking a well-written (at times) and interesting series under the noses of the teen angst division of the WB/CW.

"Night Shifter" was awesome, I think one of the most solid hours that the series has produced since the pilot. But what was up with "Roadkill"? I feel bad for anybody who saw that pile of dreck as their first exposure to the show.

There's so much set up on the show, I would like to see them pay off some storylines. They have the FBI after them, the Yellow Eyed demon, other angry Hunters, the Trickster, possibly that chick gone Sammy-crazy... a lot of craziness to come. You gotta love it!

I can't wait for Dean as the best production assistant ever!

Wait, there's acting? I thought it was just about the guys...

Ha ha, I totally read your recaps. I really enjoy them, actually, because you write from a totally different perspective than most recappers for the show, since you focus on more than the hotness (I used to recap the show for another site, and I'm guilty as charged). Someone who recaps plot and characterization? It's MADNESS.

With the exception of a few episodes ("Roadkill" is the first one where I was waiting for it to be over), this season has really hit its stride. I'm eagerly awaiting resolution on several things as well. Obviously I'm hoping for some resolution, or at least a major leap forward, on the Yellow-Eyed Demon storyline by season's end, but I'm also really looking forward to seeing how the FBI storyline plays out. They're usually great with continuity, so I'd be surprised if that doesn't resurface again soon.

This week's episode is going to rock. They do standalone comedic episodes so well. Did you watch the director's cuts?

I'm going to papercut you ferociously.

Director's Cuts?

C List: 1072 Points Burdorff on Wed, 2007-04-18 03:09

How good are the director's cuts? I mean, is there really a lot of items of interest, or is it mainly just throwaway lines and bits that were trimmed for time? I've always been aware that they are there, I've just never bothered.

Yeah, I'm into these shows for plot, character and writing overall, but I know why they get some of the audience that they do. I'm the one that thinks Buffy got better as it got less high school and more dark and unfortunately, I'm the audience that Kripke can't find on this show. Are other people like me, a 28yr old straight male with a less than healthy love of sci-fi and smart horror, scared off by the scary teenybopper love and the reputation that the programming of the WB/CW carries? I can't say that it helps...

Director's Cuts

D List: 184 Points Darby Shaw on Thu, 2007-04-19 22:04

The director's cuts are just scenes from the episodes, not scenes that are cut. They're a nice sneak peek into what's going to happen, but nothing major. A lot of times they pull humorous scenes, which is why I always end up so tickled.

They're interesting to me when they're shown before they're totally finished, without music, etc., but that's not a really frequent occurrence.

Anyway, they're a nice preview, but nothing you'll miss if you watch the episode. :)

I'm going to papercut you ferociously.

I loved this episode! Dean is the best PA ever! Of course, how do I get *that* sort of a PA?
The whole meta-commentary on the entertainment industry at the end, priceless.

So, I enjoyed this episode. It had a lot of humorous moments...Dean as a movie buff geek was pretty funny, and the insider jokes were cool. I like when TV or film parodies itself. I didn't actually realize that was really McG until my roommate told me (I'm a little dense sometimes). I really like that he made fun of himself.

The pacing was weird. Some scenes I just didn't care about. That's probably my biggest criticism of the show overall...even most of their really great episodes have some pacing issues, although there are some exceptions.

I didn't think this was as tight as "Hell House" from last year, which remains my single favorite humorous episode, but it was good. A nice break between the angst of "Heart" and what I'm sure is going to be an intense season ending.

I'm going to papercut you ferociously.

Not McG

C List: 1072 Points Burdorff on Mon, 2007-04-23 01:27

Well, not McG really. He produces the show, but I imagine he is not heavily involved. Whether or not he knew the ribbing was coming, who knows.

The character on the show though was played by an actor (whose name escapes me right now), but he can currently be seen on Halfway Home on Comedy Central playing the arsonist.
