Peter is not the human bomb. If you want to know keep reading...if not then STOP! The next episode "String Theory" it is revealed that Sylar is the bomb. He also managed to kill Claire. Finally answering the "Save the Cheerleader, save the world" question. Hiro stabbed Sylar before he exploded, but he regenerated thanks to killing Claire and stealing her power. Mama Petrelli also has a power, it is similar to another hero's power but, "she can get from point A to B faster and easier."

Except all of that was red herrings. Claire was saved and Peter was the bomb. There was an original timeline where Claire died, but she didn't any more and Sylar was never actually the bomb in any timeline.
